The German Magazine Der Spiegel shows the symbol that is being used in conjunction with the European Union is the one from Revelation 17 where a “great harlot” is depicted riding a beast. Great Britain issued a stamp to commemorate the first European Parliament elections in 1979, the picture on the stamp depicted  a woman riding a beast. The woman on a beast is now the official picture of the European Union.  The multi-million dollar new parliament building in Brussels, Belgium, contains a dome with a giant painting, of a woman riding a beast.

In Strasbourg, France, the rival  parliamentary building (the one with the Tower of Babel) features a mural of a naked woman riding a beast. Likewise, the new Brussels headquarters of the Council of Europe contains a bronze statue of a woman riding a beast, and the beast is depicted riding on waves, just as in Revelation 17.

               WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND WHEN THE BOOK OF  REVELATION WAS WRITTEN

            There is a great debate as to when the Book of Revelation was written.  This is an important debate because entire views of eschatology or Bible prophecy rest on when the Apostle John wrote Revelation.  For example, the Preterist approach to Revelation teaches that the Book of Revelation was written before 69 A.D. under the reign of the Emperor Nero who reigned from 54 to 69 A.D.  If this is true then many of the topics in the Book of Revelation would not apply to a future event, but to events that surround the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.  This is important because then the Book of Revelation would not be primarily oriented around the future, but around the events of A.D. 70.  This would radically affect the mindset of the Church as to such subjects as the rapture, the Antichrist, the rebuilding of the Temple, Armageddon, the role of Israel, the mark of the beast and many other subjects.  If Preterists are correct in their viewpoint, than the contemporary mindset of the Church should be shaken radically because their basic understanding of Bible prophecy or eschatology is faulty.

            Men who have advanced the early date for the Book of Revelation have been Jay Adams, Adam Clarke, Alfred Edersheim, J.B. Lighfoot, John A. T. Robinson, Dr. Kenneth Gentry, David Chilton and others.  One argument in favor of an early writing for the Book of Revelation comes from Revelation 17:10, “There are seven kings.  Five have fallen, one is and the other has not yet come.  And when he come, he must continue a short time.”  Many Bible scholars believe that these kings refer to seven world empire throughout human history-Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome.  The Roman form government which has continued in various forms that might include both Europe and the United States is the seventh and the reign of Antichrist will be the eighth.  However, if the term “seven kings” refers to kings and not kingdoms, then history teaches us that there were five Roman kings and that Nero was the sixth king to be Emperor of Rome.  If this interpretation is true than the Book of Revelation would have been written sometime during the reign of Nero ( A.D. 54 to 68 A.D. ) or before A.D. 70.    Another argument for this position is the identification of the Emperor Nero with the number 666 found in Revelation 13:18.  “Here is wisdom.  Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is a number of a man :  His number is 666. 

            In his book Revelation Four Views A Parallel Commentary Edited by Steve Gregg ( Thomas Nelson Publishers 1977 Nashville Tennessee pg. 303 ) “Here using English characters, the Hebrew form of “Caesar Nero” is Nrwn Qsr ( pronounced “Neron Kaiser).  The value of the seven Hebrew letters is 50, 200, 6, 50, 100, 60 and 200, respectively.  The total is 666.  This is the solution of advocated by David S. Clark, Jay Adams, Kenneth Gentry, and most others.

                                          WHAT THE BATTLE FOR THE DATE IS ALL ABOUT

            The external evidence for the date that the Book of Revelation was written points to John writing this book when he was banished to the isle of Patmos during the reign of Domitian (A.D. 91-96).  The island of Patmos and the surrounding islands was used to imprison men who were designated “enemies of the state” or political prisoners.  The traditionally accepted date for the writing of the Book of Revelation is 95 A.D.  This is vitally important because this clearly places all the events in the Book of Revelation in the future and not when Jerusalem was destroyed in A.D. 70.

            What is at stake here is," Does the Book of Revelation unfold God’s prophetic plan for mankind in the future?”    Historically the only objections to the authenticity of the book did not come until the late second and third century from the Eastern Church headquartered in Alexandria.  The Alexandrian Fathers rejected millennialism and the literal interpretation of Revelation in favor of a more allegorical or spiritual approach to Revelation.  They were heavily influenced by the Greek philosophers such as Philo.  As such, there interpretation of scripture was not based on the Bible being the literal Word of God, but reduced to allegory and spiritual myth.  In my opinion, this had the same effect on scripture as German Higher Criticism had in Europe before the birth of theological liberalism.  The result was that men like Origen (c.185-254 ) labeled the literal interpretation of Revelation as “Jewish.”  When the literal interpretation of Revelation was rejected teachers like Clement of Alexandria (c. 150-215 ), they began interpreting Revelation according to private “revelation.”  The result was that  “Clement of Alexandria  interpreted the 24 elders as a symbol of the equality of the Jew and Gentile church, locusts tails as the mischievous influence of immoral teachers; and the many colored stones of the New Jerusalem as the manifold grace of apostolic teaching.” ( Revelation Four Views A Parallel Commentary Edited by Steve Gregg Thomas Nelson Publishers 1997 Nashville , Tennessee pg.30

            This free form symbolic interpretation was adopted by Origen who taught that white horse rider represented the opening of heaven by the Word of God.  Methodius taught that the male child of Revelation 12:5 is the baptized human soul in which Christ is born and the dragons seven heads are the seven deadly sins.  Augustine ( c. 354-430 ), in The City of God describes the Millennium as the interval between the first and second advents of Christ.  This was an idea borrowed by Tyconius ( c. 390 ).  This interpretation became the basic belief of the church for over eight centuries and became known as St. Augustine’s Amillennial View.  In this view the Book of Revelation is symbolic of God’s kingdom triumphing through the church.  The church replaces Israel as the people of God and the Great Tribulation and the Millennium are not literal 7 year and 1,000 year periods.  Instead they are symbols for the age-long struggle of evil against Christ’s rule.

            The problem with turning the Book of Revelation into an allegory or making it symbolic is that it becomes a book that is “up for grabs” by any Bible teacher.  For example, I have heard a continuing series authors and Bible teachers in the charismatic movement come up with their own private interpretations and revelations on the Book of Revelation.  I have heard Bible teachers talk about having a vision of being carried up in a chariot with the Lord and being given a private revelation of what the book means, others who state that the seal judgments are currently being opened and countless authors who claim their interpretation of Revelation is based on a personal revelation by the Holy Spirit.  The problem is that most of these authors and teachers completely contradict each other.  As such, the question naturally arises, “If the Holy Spirit was giving them revelations, then how come all the revelations contradict one another?”  This is the danger of allegorizing and spiritualizing the Book of Revelation.  Anyone is free to come up with a personal theory or “revelation from the Holy Spirit.”  Only a literal approach to interpreting Revelation offers the basis for sound doctrine and a system of interpretation.  In the long run, only a literal interpretation of the Book of Revelation makes any sense.

             

                                                 THE SECOND COMING

            At the battle of the Armageddon Jesus Christ returns to defeat all the nations that are coming to invade Jerusalem in an event which is called the Second Coming.  “Now  I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse.  And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.  His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns, He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.  He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called the Word of God.  And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.  Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations.  And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.  He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:  KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”  Revelation 19:11-16

            In the Old Testament the Prophet Zechariah refers to this same event.  “Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst.  For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city will be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished.  Half of the city shall go into captivity.  But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.  The Lord will go forth and fight those nations as He fights in the day of battle.  And His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east.  And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from the east to the west, making a very large valley…”  Zechariah 14:1-4 

            The phrase “day of the Lord” is one of the many Old Testament references to the Tribulation period.  In this case, this passage of scripture is referring to the coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ to fight against the nations who are battling Jerusalem and to return to the Mount of Olives which will be spit in two at His return.  All the Gentile nations of the earth, which will include America, are led by the Antichrist  and will be defeated at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.  The prophet Zechariah sees the Lord standing on the very same Mount of Olives where Jesus Christ ascended back into heaven.

            The prophet Zechariah continues to give his vision of the Second Coming of Christ.  “ And the Lord shall be King over all earth.”

                                      REVIVED ROMAN EMPIRE

 

            The European Parliament called on the 15 European Union states to enforce political and economic sanctions against Israel, which it accused of violating international and humanitarian law in its war against the Palestinians.  (International Herald Tribune European legislators target Israel by Thomas Fuller 4/11/2002 iht.com )  The Parliaments’ resolution was adopted by a vote of 269 to 208 in favor of stopping Israelis through various economic sanctions.

            It is interesting to note that the EU has been the largest contributor to the Palestinian Authority since the 1990’s and has given over $3.1 billion for airports, hospitals, port facilities, universities, housing and sewage systems.  The EU is considering sending in an international peacekeeping force into Israel.  In addition, EC President, Romano Prodi, of Rome has announced that the United States has failed in trying to keep the peace in the Middle East.  Romano Prodi is calling for the European Community to negotiate a lasting peace between the Arabs and the Jews.

            It is interesting to note that the Prophet Daniel spoke about a future leader of a Revived Roman Empire in the last days who would negotiate a peace treaty for Israel.  Daniel talks of a prince of the people that would destroy both Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple.  In A.D. 70, Titus destroyed both Jerusalem and the temple, Yet, Daniel also spoke of a future Antichrist would negotiate a peace treaty with Israel and then betray them.

            Many Bible scholars believe that the EU is the Revived Roman Empire.  It is interesting to note that the United States authority in the Middle East is currently being challenged by the EU and the United Nations.  On April 11, 2002 the International Criminal Court was officially instituted by the United Nations.  The court established a permanent tribunal to prosecute “crimes against humanity.”  On his last day in office, President Clinton signed this treaty which indicates the United States intent to ratify this treaty.  President Bush has sought to retract Clinton’s signature.  Currently, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee is considering bringing the treaty to the Senate for a vote. 

            The Rome Statute was a treaty calling for a world court to prosecute gross human rights was launched in 1998.  The U.S., China, Iraq and Israel voted against the Statute that year.  However, enough nations ratified the treaty to allow the U.N. to officially open the International Criminal Court.  Opponents of the U.N. International Criminal Court believe that a panel of judges from non-Western nations might prosecute George Bush if he attempts to invade Iraq and take down Saddam Hussein without first seeking approval from the U.N. Court.  If the United States engages in such military activity they might be charge with a war crime.

             Many European allies including Romano Prodi of Rome are critical of America’s role in the Middle East and are hostile what they perceive as the United States “Lone Ranger” attitude.  Furthermore, Europe resents America’s dominance since the fall of Russia and they want to take steps to curb U.S. power on the planet.  ( WorldNetDaily World Court Now A Reality by Mary Jo Anderson 4/11/02

 

 

                            BIBLE VERSES ABOUT THE ANTICHRIST

May people do not like to teach about what the Bible has to say about the Antichrist.  Yet, our contemporary cultures is fascinated by things like “666,” “The Mark of the Beast,” and the Antichrist.  Here are some Bible verses on the subject for you to review.

“Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon and exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.  He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of all men.  And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast …verses 16-18

“He causes all both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their foreheads and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark, or the number of his name.  Here is wisdom.  Let him whom has understanding  calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man 666.”  Revelation 13

Revelation 19:11-16

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS

Verse 19-20 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on and against His army.  Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast

And those who worshipped his image.  These were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with fire and brimstone.

                           IS AMERICA AND BRITAIN LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL?

            There is a pervasive spiritual error that exists among many people today who believe that ten of the twelve tribes of Israel have been lost.  Many of these people believe that the inhabitants of Great Britain are the descendants of the tribe of Ephraim and the inhabitants of the United States are of the tribe of Manasseh.  This belief system is often referred to as British Israelism.   Although, the belief has been around a long time it was widely promoted by Hebert W. Armstrong, founder of the World Wide Church of God who had a massive global media empire and was able to spread this falsehood around the world.

            British Israelism teaches after Israel was captured by the Assyrians around 800 B.C. that they lost their distinct national ancestry.   These people believe that the tribes of Israel went up into Northern Europe and became the Saxons who invaded Europe.  As such the Anglo Saxons or white English speaking people are the ten lost tribes of Israel.  Advocates of British Israelism teach that Ephraim became the people of England and Manasseh became America. 

            However, in Genesis we read the account of how God is dealing with one particular group of people and in Genesis Chapter 12 we read about how Abram is called a “Hebrew.”  The term Hebrew would apply to all of Abraham’s physical descendants.  Abraham’s grandson was named Jacob or Israel.  As such the descendants of Abraham and Jacob could be referred to as “Hebrews” or “Israelites.”  When Jacob blessed his sons in Genesis 49 we read about the twelve tribes of Israel which included Judah.  The term Jew comes from the word Judah.  But, a Jew is also a Hebrew and Israelite.  A Jew is not simply someone who descends from the one tribe of Judah.  A Jew refers to the descendants of Abraham and Jacob.

            The idea that the twelve tribes of Israel were lost cannot be backed up by Scripture.  Paul stood before King Agrippa and said, “And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers: Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come.  For which hope’s sake, King Agrippa I am accused of the Jews.”  Acts 26:6,7  Clearly the twelve tribes Paul referred to could not have been lost.  James addressed the twelve tribes when he said, “to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad.”  James 1:1 

            In the Book of Revelation states that from each tribe 12,000 were saved. Revelation 7:4-8  The term Jews never referred exclusively to the tribe of Judah.  It referred to the “seed of Abraham.” 

            THE PROMISE OF THE TO ISRAEL WAS NOT FULFILLED JOSHUA 21:43

“So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.”

The promise of the possession was the promise of the possession FOREVER this was not fulfilled under Joshua

In the Book of Judges “ The Lord was with the men of Judah, they took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had iron chariots.” Judges  1:9

The Benjamites failed to drive out the Jebusites.  Also, the Canaanites controlled portions of the land.

                                     REVIVAL OR RACISM?

            “…you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars…see that you are not troubled,

            for all thse things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  For nation shall rise

            against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…”  Matthew 24:6,7

            The Greek word for war is “ethnos” which means ethnic or racial conflict.  Jesus Christ is saying that one of the signs of the times for His return is an increase in ethnic and racial conflict.  I believe that here in America we are on the precipice of some degree of race wars.  The Body of Christ must respond to the call of the Holy Spirit to become a living example of what it means for different races and ethnic groups to “love one another” and to be the intercessors that God has called us to be.

            It would be incredibly naďve to assume that the tensions regarding immigration, borders, racial injustice, and very real economic problems will not escalate.  It is my belief that when the hidden sin of racism in the Body of Christ is repented of that this will be a key to unlock revival and evangelism.  However, to put it in the most simplistic terms, the devil also has a plan and that is to seduce the Church and the nations into intense racial conflict.  If as Christians we yield to the temptation to be racist, then we will empower the Adversary to accomplish  his purposes.   

            On a purely human level there only a limited number of solutions to these problems.  On one hand we have the globalist agendas of groups like the Council On Foreign Relations. The CFR proposes to merge Canada, the United States and Mexico.  But, these are socialist plans that will involve Big Brother, the loss of freedom and the end of the Middle Class.

            What is needed is a solution that is from Heaven.  If that sounds to “mystical,” it shouldn’t be.  During the First and Second Great Awakenings in America there were profound political and social changes that stemmed from these revivals.  The great temptation at this juncture is to use class and race warfare that will only produce heartache and tyranny.

            The Holy Spirit inside the life of every believer, no matter what race is a fact.  That reality should come to bear on the present conflicts.  If it does not then we have missed a divine opportunity for revival.

 


 

                                                                            

 
 
 

                    

Radio Talk Show Host Paul McGuire Modern Day Prophet?

PRLEAP.COM) Syndicated radio talk show host Paul McGuire began talking about the coming merger of Canada, Mexico and the United States in what is now called the North American Union long before it hit the national headlines, and CNN. In fact, he wrote about it in a book called “Are You Ready?” Months before 911, McGuire released a book entitled “Countdown To Armageddon” which talked in specific detail about the World Trade Centers as a terrorist target, Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, and Iraq. When 911 happened he could not believe how our intelligence officials said they did not perceive Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda as a threat? Paul McGuire had written an entire book about it before it happened.

Now McGuire has released what many are calling a “prophetic novel” called “The Warning” which talks about what could happen in America after a major terrorist incident, and our Constitutional freedoms are taken away for the sake of national security. If it sounds like an episode from Fox’s “24,” it could be because some of the writers and producers of “24” are fans of the Paul McGuire Show which broadcasts live from Los Angeles M-F from 3pm – 6pm on KBRT and is syndicated across the nation.

McGuire has a reliable record of predicting events before they happen in his books and on his radio show. In fact, many people at the Pentagon and the U.S. State Department are now tuning into McGuire’s show which features a steady stream of guests like former President Jimmy Carter, Senator John McCain, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, PLO leaders, military and intelligence experts live from Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, leaders in the Islamic community, and religious leaders like Rick Warren author of the “Purpose Drive Life, and Tim LaHaye of the “Left Behind” series. Dr. Tim LaHaye is a huge fan of McGuire’s books and radio show. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Omert read McGuire’s book “Are you Ready?” before the Israel-Lebanon war.

Paul McGuire is the author of 16 books, a professor at the King’s College & Seminary, and a regular commentator on CNN and the Fox News Network. When discussing the Middle East and the problem with open borders in the United States, Fox News Network featured McGuire’s new novel “The Warning.” Whenever McGuire appears on the Fox News Network, they receive record breaking levels on E Mail response.

When a fifteen year old German girl, Melissa Busekros, who was home schooled was seized by the German government for the crime of home schooling. Fifteen police officers swept down upon her home, and she was sent to a Child Psychiatric Unit in Nuremberg. A German psychiatrist diagnosed her with having “school phobia” because she was home schooled, and she was sent to a secret location against her parents will. Paul McGuire was on top of the story as soon as it broke. He was not surprised that the when the parents appealed to the German courts, that the courts in Germany which operate under the new European Union Constitution, stated that the German government has the full right to conduct such activities. McGuire wrote about the implications of the European Union Constitution in his book “Are You Ready?” In addition, McGuire has warned the religious community in America that when the North American Union Constitution is ratified, it will have a chilling affect on religious freedoms in America. When White House Press Secretary Tony Snow was a guest on the Paul McGuire Show, McGuire asked Snow about the North American Union, and Snow essentially denied that it was an issue.

Paul McGuire has been called the new Francis Schaeffer of our time. Many people have called him a modern prophet. However, Paul McGuire does not believe he is a prophet, “just someone who takes the time to do research, and analyze trends.”
